San Diego Fun n’ Sun

About as far south as you can go on California’s coast line, you’ll find yourself in San Diego, a true travel gem with and endless array of attractions, activities, and the most beautiful weather and beaches you’ll find on the west coast.  The San Diego airport has direct flights from most major airports and is conveniently located next to downtown and the cruise ship terminals.  San Diego is around an hour and a half drive from Los Angeles, which also makes it a good day destination for those visiting L.A.

You will find hundreds of attractions and things to do in and around San Diego.  You have a world famous zoo, wild animal park, Sea World amusement park, Coronado Island, Mission Bay Aquatic Park, Tijuana Mexico, Lego Land, as well as other top rated family entertainment and sports venues.  There is always something new we find that is fun and interesting to do each time we visit San Diego.  On a recent trip to San Diego we stumbled upon the WaveHouse at Mission Beach’s Belmont Park.  The WaveHouse is a huge indoor & outdoor man made wave riding & entertainment facility at the beach.  Learn to surf in controlled waves with no sharks and take in a real Southern California party atmosphere complete with music, food & drinks and the beach.  Oh yes, you will also find a roller coaster at Mission Beach as well as plenty of surf shops, bars and a beachwalk that stretches north to Pacific Beach.  Rent a beach cruiser bike and ride up the beachwalk to Pacific Beach (or skates & roller-blades for the adventurous).

If you love the beach and that beach-town feel, the numerous beach communities that stretch from the Tijuana Mexico border to North San Diego County’s Oceanside, are well worth a visit and make a great way to spend a day taking a drive along the coast, stopping in each little seaside town’s beach-side center.  Many feel like a little modern seaside village with small shops, boutiques, art galleries, antique shops, restaurants and bars, all near the ocean.  One of our favorites is La Jolla, a high-end upscale Rodeo Drive like village of high-end fashion, Lamborghini’s, and fine dinning.  Prospect Drive in the main street than runs trough town.  Just north of town, make a point to take a drive on La Jolla Farms Drive it you want to see some really nice ocean front mansions, one after another.  North of La Jolla, you’ll find the beach towns of Del Mar, famous for it’s horse race track, and Carlsbad, which is known for Lego Land and its high-end Resorts & Spas like the La Costa Resort & Spa, the Grand Pacific Palisades, and others.

You’ll find fabulous accommodations all around San Diego.  Whether its down town San Diego, Carlsbad, or Coronado Island, San Diego has awesome hotels & resorts, and plenty of them.  That’s good for the savvy traveler that knows how to keep an eye out and find a good deal.  In low seasons you’ll find many hotels may struggle to fill vacancies and there is competition.  Your travel agent can help or have a handy online travel booking website that you frequent.  One on San Diego’s main industries is tourism, so you will find promotions and vacation package deals regularly on the internet.

Old Puerto Vallarta

If you’re looking for a great getaway to spark a little romance with the one you love, look no further.  Puerto Vallarta Mexico has the perfect ambiance to kindle any flame.  Gourmet dining, nightlife, sandy beaches, pink sunsets and plenty of couples activities.

Short direct flights from major U.S. airports make it a perfect three to four night getaway that’s easy to do and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.  The Puerto Vallarta airport is 5-minutes from town and taxi cabs are inexpensive and plenty.  You are usually settled in your hotel room shortly after landing.  Hotel reservations and flights are easy to book online and its easy to find vacation package deals.

Great hotel choices include: the Westin Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, the Marriott Casa Magna Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, and the Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta.  All are on the beach and a short cab ride to town.  If you want to go real high-end you can stay at the Four Seasons Punta Mita Resort or the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort and enjoy 5-Star luxury and real pampering.

Puerto Vallarta has some of the most romantic little dining spots.  The River Cafe along the banks of Cuale Island downtown offers riverside dining on this quaint little downtown island in the middle of the Cuale River.  The tropical open air ambiance is romantic and the food is delicious.  They have a premium full bar and music most nights.  If you’re looking for a romantic panoramic hillside view overlooking Puerto Vallarta, the Vista Grill offers award winning food while you dine gazing at the pink sun going down over the Pacific Ocean.  The great service makes for a nice evening.  If you want to dine on the Beach and have great food, La Palapa Restaurant & Beach Club is a cozy beachfront Palapa style open breeze restaurant with a romantic tropic vibe.

By day you can swim, walk the beach snorkel, jet ski, parasail, dive, zip-line, shop, and sip margaritas.  By night you can take in the great music, dancing, nightlife, and sip margaritas; or, just stay at your resort and relax.  A few days in Puerto Vallarta will put a smile on your faces and give you some romantic memories.
