Palm Springs, online travel booking

Palm Springs is located a little more than 100 miles east of Los Angeles California in the sheltered Coachella Valley desert.  The hot desert climate and local attractions bring tourists from around the world to the area.  Palm Springs experiences over 300 days of sunshine per year and hot dry weather most of the year, except for the winter months where it still remains warm.  Temperatures between June and September regularly exceed 100 °F degrees during the day, so this is the low season for tourists.  To get there, it’s easiest to fly into Palm Springs International Airport or the LA/Ontario International Airport which is around an hour drive away.  You can also drive a car to Palm Spring from Los Angeles in around 90-minutes.

There are a number of attractions and activities around the Palm Springs area.  You’ll find several popular Jeep and Hummer desert adventures that take you through spectacular canyons, several oases, the Mojave Desert and the spectacular Joshua Tree National Park. Springtime provides a blooming desert that comes to life.  Many visitors to the area enjoy the panoramic view from over 8,500 feet elevation on the Palm Springs Aerial Tram which travels up to the top of Mount San Jacinto on suspended cables every half hour.  The summit is the perfect photo opportunity, and you will find snow in the winter months.  If you like horses you can take an easy sunset or moonlight horseback ride which includes a cowboy barbeque dinner at the Crazy Horse Ranch.  The ranch will teach you how to ride.  Kids of all ages will have hours of fun at the popular Knott’s Soak City Waterpark with 16 acres of wild water rides, including a large wave pool and river tubing.  You can also enjoy the area’s natural relaxing hot springs for that therapeutic relief, or simply hike some of the colorful canyons and pack a picnic lunch.

There are some popular cultural venues in the area like the Palm Springs Art Museum which includes a performing arts theater as well as fine art displays.  The Palm Springs Air Museum is always a fun attraction with its large collection of historic World War Two planes to view up close.  Children can enjoy hands on fun at the Children’s Discovery Museum which features over 60 activities for them to participate in.  You’ll also find plenty of swanky art galleries in the area, some which feature beautiful and rare Native American art.  The Palm Springs area has many of the world’s best championship golf courses, tennis clubs, Spa treatment resorts, outdoor sports, bars, dancing, nightlife and fine dining.

Many top chefs have set up shop in Palm Springs bringing a variety of different cuisines and dining experiences to the area.  Popular restaurants include Trio, a great American cuisine restaurant with a hip vibrant atmosphere and bar.  A favorite of the locals is Le Vallauris restaurant which serves delicious contemporary Mediterranean/French flare cuisine and has the most festive patio dining ambiance around Palm Springs.  Visitors to Palm Springs also enjoy Copley’s On Palm Canyon for its fabulous contemporary cuisine, good personal service and relaxing ambiance.  There are many other great restaurants to choose from, simply ask the locals for their favorite.

You can visit or stay at any number of Indian casino resorts like the Agua Caliente Casino Resort & Spa, Casino Morongo, Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, or Palm Spring’s downtown Spa Resort Casino.  They feature plenty of slot machines, poker, table games, bars, lounges and entertainment.  Most include luxury guest rooms and suites plus typical resort amenities like swimming pools, spas, room service and restaurants.  These are not your typical Indian casinos.

Aside from the casino resorts, there are plenty of luxury hotels and resorts in the Palm Springs area.  The Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage is on 360 prime acres featuring landscaped courtyards and waterways, two world-class golf courses, Tennis, multiple swimming pools, bars & restaurants, 472 guestrooms and suites, as well as their state of the art spa.  There is also the adjacent Westin Mission Hills Villas which offers spacious vacation villas that are great for families and groups wanting kitchens and multi-bedrooms.  Another very popular resort is the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert.  The resort features waterways with gondolas, a grand lobby with waterfalls, two golf courses, tennis, a nightclub, world class spa, bars and restaurants, and four swimming pools.  Click here to visit VoyageMonkey.com, see other recommended resorts, and find the best travel deals to Palm Springs.
